We are partnering exclusively with a highly respected organisation at the forefront of chemical solutions to identify an accomplished Senior Process Safety Engineer. The company operates complex, innovation‑driven manufacturing environments where advanced chemistry and digital tools converge to support safe, efficient, and sustainable operations.
Role Summary
The Senior Process Safety Engineer will play a key role in strengthening and evolving the site’s process safety performance. Acting as a trusted technical specialist, the successful candidate will guide multidisciplinary teams, influence strategic decisions, and ensure that operational activities are carried out with a strong focus on hazard prevention and risk control.
The individual will lead the implementation and ongoing improvement of robust Process Safety Management (PSM) systems, integrating best‑practice methodologies into engineering design, operations, and future site development.
Key Responsibilities
Process Safety Leadership
- Lead the design, development, and continual enhancement of the client’s PSM framework, ensuring systems remain resilient and aligned with both internal standards and external industry expectations.
- Drive structured hazard analyses, risk evaluations, and safety reviews, offering expert insights to support sound decision‑making.
- Contribute to the development of procedures and practices associated with new technologies, process changes, or product introductions.
Operational Support & Integration
- Ensure that process safety is embedded into capital projects, modifications, and engineering designs from concept through implementation.
- Promote and apply principles of inherently safer design, ensuring risk reduction opportunities are captured early in the project lifecycle.
- Maintain full compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and support audit readiness.
Incident Prevention, Learning & Improvement
- Lead or support investigations into process safety‑related events, coordinating root‑cause analysis and defining effective corrective actions.
- Monitor performance metrics and evaluate trends, proactively identifying emerging risks or areas for improvement.
- Ensure lessons learned are shared across functions and incorporated into ongoing safety enhancements.
Collaboration, Coaching & Influence
- Act as a credible subject matter expert, supporting operations, engineering, and maintenance teams in understanding and managing process risks.
- Provide coaching and knowledge transfer to develop internal capability and strengthen organisation‑wide safety ownership.
- Represent process safety considerations in cross‑functional discussions and contribute to internal or external knowledge‑sharing networks.
Candidate Profile & Qualifications
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a blend of technical depth, leadership capability, and strong communication skills. Key requirements include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a closely related field
7–10+ years’ experience in process safety within a manufacturing or industrial processing environment
- Strong background in hazard assessment methodologies (e.g., HAZOP, LOPA) and safety‑critical systems
- Experience using risk assessment tools and process modelling software
- Solid understanding of process safety–related regulatory frameworks
- Ability to influence stakeholders, build relationships, and communicate complex safety concepts clearly
